Ben is a fourth-year student finishing his Bachelor of Piano Performance at Wilfrid Laurier University. His journey with the piano started as a young boy in general group music lessons. He later moved on to group piano lessons, focusing on rock piano. At age 16, Ben returned to the piano with a new focus: classical music. He started private lessons with Catherine Freitag and enjoyed progressing through the intermediate classical repertoire. One term into a degree of Film Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University, Ben dropped out and applied to Laurier’s music program, changing his life trajectory.

Ben now studies with Marnie Van Weelden, and since his start at Laurier he has performed at every single Keyboard Noon Hour concert in the past three years, he started and is running a successful piano performance club – WLU Piano Forum, he has received numerous piano performance scholarships, he is a team lead for Laurier’s Music Theory SI  (Supplemental Instruction) Program, and he has continually pushed himself in what it means to be a music educator. Following graduation, Ben hopes to complete a performance diploma at Laurier and later pursue a graduate degree. His dream is to teach studio piano and music theory at a small university music program (ideally somewhere near some great crownland camping spots).
